Wow! What another fun day in class! I really enjoyed the activities that we did today. Especially our happy/mean faces. It did not take much to change one picture to the next. It is amazing how color and camera angle can really change the story that a picture is telling. I also liked the picture cropping activity that we did. Again, it did not take much to change the story that my picture was telling. I realized that I had never really studied ads before. I had always taken them at face value.
I had a hard time trying to decide what to do for my final project. Originally, I thought it would be fun to make up an advertisement. However, I couldn't think of anything to sell. I finally decided to look at how the different media has handled the new Arizona immigration law. I am sure that I will learn a lot from doing this.

Day Four
It is amazing how much fun I am having learning about things that I didn't know about or ever even thought about! Thanks!
One thing I need to clarify about this morning's class. I never meant to imply that I was really happy that M.J. had a tragic death. I was just relieved that he could no longer hurt any more children.
I enjoyed watching the commercials this morning, especially the ones on BP. It seems like the one spoof was pretty accurate in it's portrayal of how they have responded to the tragic oil spill. I'm not sure how anyone could seriously blame Obama for this.

Day Three
The Story of Stuff
Wow! It is hard for me to describe the flood of emotions that went through me as I watched this video. The government as a tank. Really? They couldn't think of any other way to represent our government. I don't know when this video was made, but I am sure that my local Radio Shack doesn't sell any radios for only $4.99. Even if it is green. Who actually thinks about what it costs to make the "stuff" that we are buying. Except to complain that it costs too much. Maybe the point was to make us think about it. But then what do we do? If I think I am not paying the full price for something that I am buying, should I offer to pay more? That would be stupid on my part. Even if I did, would the extra money really go to the little girl in China would made the product? I doubt it!
On reflection, the video did make some good points that we all should think about. However, buying more "stuff" is definitely not the answer.

Day Two
Wow! What another exciting day in class! I really enjoy the conversations we are having. There really is more to advertising than one would image. I love the videos that we have been watching. I never really thought about them before. This class is really opening my eyes to what is actually going in in commercials.
I hard a hard time picking a brand that I am loyal to. I guess I never really thought about it before. Usually when I shop, I look for what is on sale, the cheapest, etc. I realized the only brand I really stick with is Pepsi. I absolutely love the taste of Pepsi. It makes me feel good. When I get really stressed out, I will drink a Pepsi (when I can afford it). I call it my lifeline when I am having a bad day. I used to work in a store and help a friend with their vending route. They always sold Pepsi. They always let me drink it when I was working. Pepsi brings back fond memories of my younger days. When I think about Pepsi, I get a warm fuzzy feeling deep inside me. I was part of the Pepsi Generation. It made me feel like I belonged to something. Pepsi is the last thing that I need, but it is always what I want (unfortunately).

Day One
Okay, I admit it. I was a little apprehensive when I walked into class this morning. However, my fears quickly subsided. What a fun morning! I was amazed to learn who actually owns what in this world. It never would have occurred to me that Disney owns a hockey and baseball team.
I enjoyed watching the movie, The Corporation. It really opened my eyes to the world of corporations. I knew they were big, but never really gave them any other thought. The 14th amendment?? Who would have thought.
I am looking forward to attending this class for the next two weeks. I can just imagine what I will learn that I didn't even know I didn't know!
